Built on the terrain where once there was Francesinhas Convent, the Lisboa Antiga exhibition was planned by Gustavo de Matos Sequeira as a recreation of an early 18th century Lisbon neighbourhood for the 1935 Lisbon Festivities. With almost 200 000 visitors in just four months, it became one of the most memorable events of the genre in Portugal. The present article aims to outline its fundamentals, dissemination and public reception.
