In Portugal, the administrative development enhanced by the Liberal Revolution promoted a Public Administration that reflected at ministerial level a progressive structuring and a bureaucratic modus operandi. Symptoms that spread to the archives. To explore the “Modern Overseas Archive” (1833-1910) was privileged the organic functional study of the Direção-Geral do Ultramar and the custodial history from that records group held at the Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino, in Lisbon. A study that allowed to comprehend the archive’s growth and relevance in the overseas administration.
