Notes on Portuguese judicial diplomatics: high courts in sixteenth century Lisbon

Based on the analysis of a set of sentences from the Portuguese high courts – Casa do Cível and Casa da Suplicação – dated from the first half of the sixteenth century, this paper aims to recreate their mechanisms of written production. The analysis of the diplomatic discourse found therein allows to highlight the particularities of this specific type of document.
